WARD VILLAGE® WELCOMES RESIDENTS TO KŌʻULA®

HONOLULU – Today, new residents were welcomed to Kōʻula^®, the sixth residential building situated in the heart of Ward Village^®. The first residential project located adjacent to Victoria Ward Park, Kōʻula features 565 new residences with studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. Residents, project partners and other stakeholders celebrated the latest achievement for the master planned community during a blessing ceremony led by Kumu Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu.

Designed by Studio Gang, an architecture and urban design practice founded by acclaimed MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, Kō‘ula is targeting LEED Certification and features a fluid, waving façade. Generous private lānai in every tower residence, optimize shade and improve comfort while encouraging indoor-outdoor living. Interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg in collaboration with Studio Gang masterfully integrate natural textures, colors, and finishes to reinforce a physical and emotional connection to the islands.

The amenity level features a spa, fitness center, and multiple event spaces. The amenity deck is positioned on the eighth floor, which blends into an open-air room that overlooks Victoria Ward Park to the west and a 42,000-square-foot terrace to the east.

The dynamic and iconic addition to the community was heavily influenced by local culture and history of the neighborhood. Named by Sig Zane Designs, Kō‘ula translates to “red sugar cane,” which inspired the building’s structural columns and references the plant’s history in the area, as wide varieties were found in Kakaʻako, making it a prosperous and abundant region.
