WARD VILLAGE® UNVEILS ART INSTALLATION AT VICTORIA WARD PARK
First of four public artworks debuts at expanded public park

HONOLULU (July 16, 2024) – Ward Village®, the award-winning destination in the heart of Honolulu to live, shop, dine and explore, recently installed the first of four public artworks Victoria Ward Park. Created by renowned sculptor Linda Fleming, Wayfinding is a large-scale work inspired by the shape of ocean currents and movements of the sky, set to become a new beacon for the community at the makai entrance of the expanded public park.

As noted by Americans for the Arts and their current arts and economic prosperity study, arts and culture are critical components of a community’s quality of life and livability. In addition to Wayfinding, other public installations planned for the park will include works by accomplished local artists David Kuraoka and Hiroki Morinoue, as well as Dan Ostermiller, with themes celebrating Hawaiian nature, ecology and placemaking.
“Our art program for Victoria Ward Park includes significant and distinctive works that reflect the artists’ interpretations of what makes the neighborhood of Ward Village so special,” said Gayna Buranelli, Director of Planning & Development for Ward Village. “Art plays an important role in community building and the new works will complement the additional open green space of Victoria Ward Park and enhance the community’s enjoyment and sense of connectivity.”
The expanded makai section of Victoria Ward Park, scheduled to open later this year, will complement the active mauka portion, which remains the hub of community activities. Additionally, Ulana Ward Village will bring 697 reserved housing residences and Ka Laʻi o Kukuluāeʻo Park, adding another park nearly an acre in size. In total, eight acres of open public space and landscape improvements are planned for Ward Village, which also includes the widening of the walkable, tree-lined pedestrian promenade along Auahi Street and Ka Lei Park planned at the Diamond Head end of Ward Village. These open spaces and park expansions will enhance wellness, connectivity and culturally inspired placemaking, cornerstones of Ward Village’s vision for the neighborhood.

About Ward Village®
Ward Village is a 60-acre master planned community in the heart of Honolulu, located between downtown and Waikīkī. Honoring the distinct history of its land, Ward Village is at the forefront of sustainable community development—integrating striking architecture, culture and arts, and public open space. At full buildout, the community will include thousands of homes and approximately one million square feet of unique retail in what Architectural Digest named “Best Planned Community in the United States.” As a result of strong demand for new housing in urban Honolulu, Ward Village quickly sold out its first seven mixed-use residential towers—Waiea®, Anaha®, Ae‘o, Ke Kilohana®, ʻAʻaliʻi®, Kō‘ula®, and Victoria Place®—transforming the popular shopping and dining district into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood that offers ocean views and open space, including its newest outdoor gathering place, Victoria Ward Park. New residential buildings in development or under construction include Victoria Place, Ulana Ward Village®, The Park Ward Village®, and Kalae. Most recently approved by the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority (HCDA), The Launiu Ward Village will be the latest mixed-use development that will join the neighborhood.
Ward Village, a LEED-ND Platinum-certified master planned community part of the Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. portfolio, demonstrates its commitment to responsible, mixed-use development by investing in public benefits and amenities for Honolulu’s urban community.
