WARD VILLAGE® OPENS KA LA‘I O KUKULUĀE‘O PARK

Community enhances green space with new public park adjacent to Ulana Ward Village® residences

HONOLULU (September 17, 2025)Ward Village®, the award-winning 60-acre master planned community in Honolulu, today opened Ka La‘i o Kukuluāe‘o Park (“Ka La‘i Park”), adding nearly 26,000 square feet of green space to the neighborhood’s growing network of parks and walkable streetscapes. The park transforms former aging buildings and the surrounding pavement into newly landscaped open green space, complete with pedestrian pathways and park seating, an interactive play structure, a Biki Bike station, and water refilling station—enhanced by native plantings and shade trees alongside monkeypod-lined neighborhood streets. As a key component of three linked public spaces in the Ward Village Master Plan, Ka Laʻi Park, located adjacent to Ulana Ward Village®, reinforces the community’s walkable design and commitment to adding trees and increasing green space in urban Honolulu.

The newly opened Ka La‘i Park adds nearly 26,000 square feet of public green space to the Ward Village neighborhood
“Ka La‘i Park will play a meaningful role in the day-to-day life of our community,” said Doug Johnstone, President of the Hawaiʻi region & National Condominium Development for Howard Hughes. “Together with the upcoming opening of our workforce housing project, Ulana Ward Village, just next door, and the completion of Victoria Ward Park Mauka later this year, these milestones advance our commitment to cultivating an integrated, connected neighborhood.”
Ka La‘i Park includes amenities such as a Biki Bike station and an interactive play structure

Ka Laʻi Park is adjacent to Ward Village’s next-opening residence, Ulana Ward Village, and is bordered by Pohukaina Street, Kamani Street, and the forthcoming Auahi Street realignment, offering Ulana Ward Village's new residents—moving in this November—and the surrounding community a welcoming environment of peace and tranquility, much like the park’s namesake.

Ka Laʻi Kukuluāeʻo, meaning “the calm of Kukuluāeʻo,” reflects the area’s history as coastal wetlands and recalls the native Hawaiian stilt waterbird once found here. Seven cast-bronze stilt sculptures by artist Dan Ostermiller were previously commissioned for nearby Victoria Ward Park as part of Ward Village’s place-based public art program.

Kai Laʻi Park was developed with Hawaiian Dredging Construction, Architects Hawaiʻi Ltd., PBR Hawaiʻi & Associates, and Wilson Okamoto Corporation. Construction began in February 2025, reached substantial completion in July, and culminated with today’s opening.
