THE MUʻUMUʻU LIBRARY ARRIVES IN STYLE AT WARD VILLAGE
Borrow, trade and celebrate vintage Hawaiian dresses at new Ward Centre location

HONOLULU – Ward Village®, the award-winning destination in the heart of Honolulu to live, shop, dine and explore, invites the community to discover the joy of vintage aloha wear at The Mu‘umu‘u Library. With a diverse collection of vintage Hawaiian dresses, patterns and literature available for borrowing and trading, The Mu‘umu‘u Library embraces Hawaiʻi’s rich history, perpetuating a tradition of fashion, friendship and education. The 652 square-foot space will offer classes promoting literacy in both English and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, book clubs and tutoring services, keiki and kūpuna storytime, internship and scholarship opportunities, as well as sewing classes for women and teens.
“The Muʻumuʻu Library is another example of the creative ways our local entrepreneurs – many of whom have a home in Ward Village – are reinventing the retail landscape,” said Taylor Herring, General Manager of Ward Village. “By celebrating the artistry and legacy of aloha wear, they add a rich history to the fabric of our vibrant neighborhood.”
At its soft opening on June 12, The Mu‘umu‘u Library will hold a mu‘u swap and book drive. Those who wish to participate in the swap are encouraged to adhere to the “leave one, take one” policy, requiring all swapped mu‘u designs to be made in Hawai‘i and without any major damages. Along with the swap, The Mu‘umu‘u Library will accept donations of mu‘umu‘u dresses, books and sewing supplies.
“Most of the muʻu in the collection are vintage and made by local women from previous generations, helping to perpetuate a culture of resourcefulness,” said Marion Camo, Founder of The Mu‘umu‘u Library. “Our Ward Village location provides us an expansive platform to share our passion, build connections and grow the sustainable fashion community we’re cultivating.”
Located in the former Merle Norman space in the Ewa wing at Ward Centre, The Mu‘umu‘u Library operates on a volunteer basis and will be open by appointment and during the following hours:
- Mondays: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Fridays: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
